Chocolate-Dipped Candied Orange Peel

by Heather on May 13, 2011

I have a confession to make.  I lied.

Over the Christmas season there were some bloggers who talked about loving the orange-and-chocolate combination and, in the interest of remaining neutral, I said I liked it too.  But at the time that was a lie.

I’m sorry.  It will never ever happen again.  Why?  Two reasons:  lying is bad and I’ve found that every time I say I don’t like something I end up loving it about 2 months later.  But mainly because it’s bad…

I look back on poor, sad, pitiful me around that time and wish that I’d only given the orange-chocolate combination a chance.  I mean goodness, it’s fantastic!  Who knew?!

Apparently everyone else BUT me ;)

The truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth so help me God is that these are probably my new favorite breakfast/lunch/dinner and 2 snacks.  They’re buttery (who would have ever thought any part of the orange would be described as buttery?!), crunchy, sweet, and decidedly bitterly orange.  They are both decadent and refreshing.

In short I’m addicted.

So here’s the deal:  follow this recipe and you can’t go wrong!  The only thing that I did differently was I only let mine dry for a day or so before coating in chocolate, which was the perfect amount of time at 5,280 feet above sea level.  But regardless, make them…the only time you probably shouldn’t eat them is right after they’ve been boiled in syrup.  Trust me, it’s not worth the excruciating burned mouth.

Trust me.

Funny – I saw these on a show on the Food Network last weekend. I had never heard of eating an orange rind but it made me want to try it – and now I REALLY have to :)

That jar with the peels in it looks so pretty! This looks like a fun project for Jake and I to undertake : )

I am certain I would love these seeing as I do love those Orange shaped chocolates that you smash and then eat the wedges : )

It is strange…I love strawberries dipped in chocolate, but don’t like strawberry (or any berry for that matter) flavored chocolate. I have an awful time with boxed chocolates – any of the berry ones sit in there until Jake finds them with my little bite taken out of the corner!

This looks so gourmet! It’s a very pretty treat and I like the presentation. I’ll have to make this sometime soon. I wonder if it tastes like an orange tootsie pop.

I can’t believe you lied about chocolate and orange. It’s the best! Well, besides chocolate and caramel, or raspberry, or peanut butter. I guess chocolate goes with a lot of things.

I love candied orange peels. We used to make them all the time in my baking classes. I’d love to try these.

Hi! I’ve been reading your blog for a little while now and LOVE your recipes and photos!

These look absolutely addicting, so I want to say I will make these this week, but know better because I probably won’t make them for a while. Really it won’t be till I have a ton of oranges and chocolate on hand that I will think “oh hey didn’t someone tell me this was a good idea?” Hopefully that one day will come soon :)

One of my all time faves! It’s ok that you lied, I don’t mind. Plus, you made up for it with these!
