Smoked

Good morning everyone! Once again the weekend is flying by way too fast :)

I tell you what, we have been having some GOOD EATS this weekend!  We started off at Rock Bottom on Friday night, where they were celebrating hand crafted beer week!  I had the Velvet Rye Porter:

Oh porters, how I love thee :)

We all shared some edamame:

And then Nate and I shared our usual nachos (why are restaurants so dark?  Don’t they know people take pictures in there?!?!):

I LOVE Rock Bottom’s beer & food!  We also stopped at Blockbuster and my hubby was sweet enough to buy Mamma Mia! for me…and he only rolled his eyes a couple of times when Pierce Brosnan was singing :)

Breakfast for me was a GM in a coffee mug:

I made French Toast for everyone else, but I just felt like I needed some veggies in my system.  I did, however, decide that I needed to make some cinnamon rolls from the can as well!

I had one roll, and then got to work cooking in the kitchen.  I made:

Homemade BBQ Sauce:

  • 4 cups ketchup
  • 2 cup water
  • 1 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 10 tablespoons light brown sugar
  • 10 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ground black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon ground mustard
  • 1/2 tablespoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • 2 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice
  • 2 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

Whisk it all together, bring to a boil, then lower the temperature and simmer for 1.5 hours, or until the sauce is the thickness you’d prefer!

Mama Pea’s KIND bars (with cranberries rather than apricots), and smoked some garlic:

Basically now we are going to wait for 3 weeks while the cloves dry out and then pulverize the crap out of them so that I can eat it out of a bucket with a spoon…

We also smoked some mild cheddar and fresh mozzarella:

We made sangria a la RhodeyGirlTests:

Soooooo good, and nice and refreshing!

Of course the dogs were there, carefully observing and making sure we did everything right.  They can’t have us eat imperfect food after all!

They watched us like hawks:

Finally we had dinner!

A cannellini bean salad from Better Homes and Gardens

And smoked pork sandwiches with the homemade bbq:

It was all so heavenly!  I could definitely go for eating more but I’m not sure if it would fit at this point :)

I was planning on riding my bike Saturday, but the wind gusts were so strong that I could barely stay up.  If it’s not too windy today I’ll definitely be going and getting in a good workout!

I loved getting to try a long of blogger’s recipes this weekend!  Have you tried any other blogger’s recipes lately?  What were they?  How did you like them?

Oh.my! that garlic is callin’ my name! I’d so eat a whole head of it…..i may or may not have done that before :D
I have tried the lentil and sweet potato crockpot stew that I found on the Kath Eats Real Food blog.
I’ve made the sugar/dairy/gluten free choc pb cups and the choc avocado pudding seen on many blogs.
I’ve also tried the black bean brownies that I first saw on Happy Herbivore.
Also, beet hummus…..forget where I got that one…maybe the Green and Crunch blog. That woman has it going on!! High raw vegan with 5 kids and one on the way.
Have a blessed day! :)

Ohhhhhh sangria. Every day of this year calls for it, I truly believe.

Recently I’ve given Averie (loveveggiesandyoga.com)’s raw versions of commercial candy a run, and wow they’ve been good. I also tried out (Chocolate-Covered) Katie’s homemade chocolate butter…and…wow. Just wow.

Good call on not biking yesterday. James and I almost died biking to the grocery store–I felt like I was moving in slow motion!

I made Crab Avocado Quesadillas last night http://www.howsweeteats.com/2010/04/15/crab-avocado-quesadillas/

They were excellent, we made them a fuller fat version with extra bacon, avocado and fresh local mozzarella

That sangria looks SO good. My husband loves sangria (which I always make fun of him for)…I should make that for him!

I’ve tried a few bloggers’ recipes, mostly baked goods…because I can’t improvise my own baked goods! I tried green tea mochi cupcakes, and some sugar cookies, and banana muffins, etc. But I always create my own savory dishes. :)

Haha, “don’t they know people take pictures in there?” So true! Improve your lighting, restaurants! I have never tasted smoked/pulled pork that I didn’t like. It is always amazing. I love how you tried so many other bloggie recipes here. I can’t think of any I have tried lately. I need to get on that.

Everything on this post looks yummy! I am now hungry and its only 9:30 AM ;)

I haven’t been cooking in a while. Since my injury I have been in a funny funk.. and since the surgery I have been even in more of a funk. I really need to not let it get to me and just live my life so the plan for tonight is to cook dinner :) a real meal not roasted veggies from the oven in a wrap or oatmeal :)
