About

Hey y’all! My name is Heather Disarro. I wear many hats, but among the ones you can read about here I’m a daughter of Christ, wife, mother, recipe developer, freelance writer and lover of all things food.

My mission: share life over fabulously simple and delicious food, to love well and laugh often.  Life is too short not to, right?

I’m a Texan born and raised, through and through, but love living in my adoptive state of Arkansas where the land is gorgeous and the people are as sweet as they come. Oh, but we spent 4 years living in Colorado too, where the scenery is equally as pretty and the people equally as wonderful. You can read more about our move here.

My hope is that when you come to Heather’s Dish you leave with (mostly) healthy recipes and soul-satisfying conversation. Authenticity is incredibly important to me, so I promise to always be honest and authentic with you!

I absolutely love traveling and have been blessed to see a lot of this amazing world we live in, and I’m always up for visiting new places.  I love to document those trips on my Travel page!  I am also a fitness fanatic and was a personal trainer in a past life. While I am no longer certified and therefore cannot offer any fitness advice, I do share my own experiences on my Fitness page and in my State of Motherhood addresses.

I am also passionate about photography and am continuously working on improving not just my food photography, but landscape and portrait photography as well. There is just so much beauty out there waiting to be captured!

Last, but definitely not least, I am the founder of a reader submission-based website called Faces of Beauty whose mission is to encourage women to see and own their beauty, with or without makeup.  I would encourage you to head over and read the stories of the brave women who so boldly share their hearts with the world in order to lift one another up!

I am so glad you’re here and can’t wait to get to know you more!  You can also find me on Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram, Google+, YouTube and StumbleUpon!

Heather, stumbled across your blog because of a comment you posted somewhere and I really like it!!!
I just lost my last annoying little kilo’s by running and maintaining a balanced and healthy lifestyle. Noticed that by cooking everything yourself, and deleting most ‘readymade’ crap, you loose a couple of pounds already. And if you make everything yourself, you just feel healthier instantly. On top of that, as soon as I stopped focussing too much on losing the weight and started focussing and fueling my body with healthy things and trying to enjoy running to get fit, it just went away on it’s own!
I have never felt this good in my life!!!!!
Hope you feel like me soon and will be reading up on you! :)
Cheers
Stephanie

Heather,

I’m so glad I stumbled across your blog today… it seems like you have a wonderful and blessed life and I’m so excited that you and your husband are soon-to-be annoying, nagging, overly-loving, awesome parents who will spoil their kids with tasty treats and lab pups.

I started my blog to inspire young girls and women to have a healthy and loving relationship with food… I hope to use some of your recipes and tasty creations. Best of luck!

Hi Heather,

Happy New Year! I hope your celebration was filled with lots of love and tons of joy :)

I was just stopping by to let you know that I nominated you for the Versatile Blogger Award. As silly and as chain-mailish as it may seem, if nothing else, it lets you know that you have made an impact.

Thank you for continuing to share your life with us. I look forward to reading more in 2012!

Hi Heather! I stumbled upon you blog while searching for new recipes to try on Tasty Kitchen, and I am so thankful and happy that I did! Looks like I have a lot of catching up to do. I just read about 3 of your most recent posts, and your style of writing is so lovely and the pictures…WOW…I live in Austin, Texas with my husband and a 4 year old miniature schnauzer named Kona. I ABHOR dusting and doing the laundry as well. Luckily, my husband actually finds doing the laundry and folding clothes therapeutic! Umm..hallelujah!! As for dusting, well…our tables, countertops, floors have a layer of snow on top.
I love Jesus with all my heart, and I’m so excited to meet another beautiful sister in Christ!

A yes, dusting is the WORST! So excited to meet you too! My sister is in Austin as well – love that city!

Hi Heather,

Your blog is a great find! I’m also a mother of a one-year-old boy (pregnant now with boy #2!), and my husband and I are training to go into full-time ministry, the goal being to plant churches overseas. I’m a food blogger as well (www.erynlynum.com), sharing my story of being a former anorexic, now fully enjoying great food! God’s brought my family a far way in the past year, as we’ve changed everything about how we eat, integrating a wholesome, real-food, delicious way of eating in our home.

I found your blog on the “Stumble Upon” social network, and look forward to reading your future posts!
